Hi Henry, I was google searching for my son's tae kwon do instructor and I happened to google Hwa rang do and came across this site. I met you in high school (laguna hills hawks). I graduated in 1982. My brother and I used to hang out with Jim Shih. Not sure if you remember him. Anyway, I was always impressed with how the jocks (jerks) wouldn't mess with you because they knew better. I went to a demo you put on during that time (80's) in El Toro. Very Impressive. Hwa Rang. My name is Henrik Sorensen, 30 years of age and from Denmark. I am a former Army Specialist and Martial Arts instructor having done Latosa Escrima, Leung Ting Wing Tsun (WT) and experienced Budo/Judo. I tried Hwa Rang Do in Denmark last year and was impressed. Hwa Rang Do is the most varied and usable system I have tried so far. I used to be a true believer in WT having used it (unfortunately) in combat several times but now I join Hwa Rang Do again but still remembering the old ways of WT in honor of Master Leung Ting.

I've had the honor of attending the former Hwa Rang Do headquarters in Downey CA. Where, in the late 1980s, I've been mostly trained by Henry Lee, and a few weeks by Supreme Grand Master Joo Bang Lee. The Martial Arts, Hwa Rang Do, has saved my life: Being attacked by a world known Serial Killer with a sharp object, (who later killed himself) I was able to hold the weapon, while still in his hand, straight kicked him down to the ground with the weapon remaining in my hand. Tossing the weapon over to by backside, said to him: "See, I don't need weapons." Without Hwa Rang Do, I wouldn't have known what to do. Rod Bentley

I'm not familiar with your system although I have studied taekwondo in my time. At the moment I practise a kung fu art called Paklaihung. I would enjoy corresponding with you and any of the visitors to your site as the martial arts are a passion of mine, and one grows by sharing. How many students do you have at this particular moment? Have you any plans to expand your dojang across california? I see that you practise 'hyungs', are these anything like the patterns in WTF taekwondo? I hope to speak to you again some time soon.
