Human beings must be able to both learn and apply knowledge if they wish to achieve their goals. Neither knowledge nor action alone can accomplish any meaningful task. One must first know "self," with all of its strengths and flaws. Then one must be challenged to perform better, stronger and faster than ever before. What is most important is the wisdom required to understand the meaning in one’s actions and the connection of the individual to the universe. Hwa Rang Do® was first established to teach young, noble men how to become great leaders by fulfilling all aspects of their human needs. They were instructed in the arts, literature, dance, strategy, combat and spirituality. The "Hwarang" grew to be one of the strongest warrior sects in history. Their civilization lasted for a thousand years, the longest civilization in recorded history.
