From Little Dragons to Black Sashes, the West Coast Hwa Rang Do Academy put all their skills on display for the twelfth annual Christmas Demonstration. Reverse punches and spin kicks smashed boards to the delight of a dojang filled to capacity. Underneath the tiger and the dragon, the aspiring Hwarang maintained balance, poise and energy, executing techniques like Tae Soo Jang Bong Hyung and Tae Soo E Jin Hyung with the ease of many hours practiced.
Newly minted white belts showed their poise, while the techniques demonstrated by the Hwarangdo students cause the audience to wince, gasp, cheer and applaud – all at the same time! Little Dragons, family and friends all gaped in awe at the dazzling display that unfolded before them.
The graduating Tae Soo Do black belts also presented Master Lee and the Academy with a set of candles to “light the way”, in a show of gratitude for all that they have learned in their journey. Master Lee also recognized a plethora of students who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and worked by example and contribution to help make the Academy the haven that it is.
And all that watching sure made everyone hungry! After the demonstration, everyone lined up to grub down on the potluck feast. Taquitos shared the table with macaroni and cheese, and Chinese chicken salad sat side by side with cheese and spinach quiche. It was an entertaining and satisfying way to close 2005, and a great launch for 2006!
